Sexy, Simple Form-Fitting Silhouettes: What Men Want to See Women Wear

After many discussions with various men about what is the best type of clothing for a woman to wear, the most common answer was something that shows off a woman’s body, preferably something simple with as few complicated closures and (potentially painful) zippers as possible.

The answer somewhat surprised me because I always thought I needed some kind of elaborate get-up. After some thinking, I realized that it made sense considering how men are significantly more visual than women. Contrary to what some women believe, men do want to see the shape of our bodies, no matter what size we are.

Like a work of fine art, men appreciate the female form and the unique natural beauty of every woman. It is for these reasons that simple form-fitting silhouettes are the most flattering ones on any body type.

Sexy Red Carpet Looks

One of my favorite red-carpet looks is Nicole Kidman’s red-bow dress by Balenciaga at the 2007 Academy Awards because it makes a statement in all the right ways in terms of cut and color, showing off her amazing body. Unfortunately even though most of us don’t have Nicole Kidman’s statuesque figure, we should not give up hope because salvation is possible.

How to Show Off Your Body Using Fit and Silhouette

There are two keys to it: fit and silhouette, both of which go hand in hand. The ideal silhouettes are simple and form-fitting, because they outline and show off the shape of your body with minimal distraction and visual interference. Even if you are not a size zero, clothes that highlight and gently hug your curves are infinitely more flattering than ones that turn your body into a sexless rectangle of a lumpy-bumpy mess.

Regardless of what you are shopping for, it is important to find clothes that actually fit you now, at your current weight.

Some of my favorite go-to items are pencil skirts, plain scoop-neck and v-neck cotton tees, A-line skirts, and sheath dresses. I love these pieces because they are simple form-fitting silhouettes that are easy to mix-and-match with a variety of accessories, cardigans, and shoes, making them perfect almost any occasion.

One Size Doesn't Fit All

For those of you who don’t always fit perfectly into items straight off the rack, tailoring is the best solution because it lets you customize the size and shape of your clothes, coming up with the ideal fit. Many department stores and dry-cleaners offer tailoring and alteration services for their customers. If you find something that you love, make sure that the quality and construction of the piece are good so that your investment will last. Simple form-fitting silhouettes can be incredibly sexy when done right, so go out there do your body the justice it deserves.

Look good in any size!

Final Comments: How to be Sexy

I have to say that fashion IS fun, so remember to enjoy yourself when you're going out shopping or getting dressed up! If you have something that you love and feel great in, then go for it and wear it as much as you want, all you need to do is mix it up a little to keep it fresh and relevant.

Being sexy isn't just about the looks, it's about the attitude and confidence. Don't try too hard or wear something that you don't feel comfortable in because, girl, everyone will know. Trust me, I've been there, and I'm sure you have, too! I recommend wearing pieces that make you feel good, ones that you can stand in front of the mirror in and say, "Mmhmm, now that's what I'm talking about!" ;)

Ladies everywhere, don't let your fears or inhibitions stop you from showing off to the world the amazing and unique individual that you are. Be fearless!

This is quite useful for me as I have had a few tent items in my wardrobe that look awful - I always wondered why men didn't like them when I did (it was the colour etc). Now, I like things like your sweater dress, where you can highlight your hips and natural assets. It certainly attracts more male attention!
