There are over 80 different ways of draping Indian designer sarees—from classic and retro, traditional and trendy, to modern and funky styles. Your draping style is an expression of your personal style. To help you pick out a suitable drape, here are some fusion saree drapes from Lakmé Fashion Week shows that we think will shape the future of the modern saree.

In the few years, LFW has witnessed a sea change in style for this six-yard long sari. We soak up so much of Western culture in every aspect of life, it is only natural that some of this has influenced the fashionable designer saree too. Fashionable sarees may change, but the one thing that will bind all of them is grace, beauty and versatility of the classy sari, however modern the drape:

8 Trending Saree Drape Styles

1. Monochromatic Drape

These bold black and white striped modern saree drape designs by Archana Kochhar at LFW Summer Resort looked awesome. She is always inspired by monochrome, but this collection year saw a touch of summer with pretty coral red embroidered flowers.

2. Vibrant Saree Drape

We must mention Masaba Gupta in fusion wear. Masaba revealed her unique saree designs early in vibrant, bold colours, like this mustard yellow and aubergine purple saree at LFW Winter/Festive. Since then, there was no looking back for the young, talented designer. We have come to expect these vivacious looks from all her signature collections.

Masaba redefined the neon saree like no other designer, especially for Satya Paul. Most recently, she paired full-sleeved blouses with big, bold printed sarees at LFW S/R. Get bright and bold designer sarees from the House of Simaaya Fashions.

3. Dhoti-Style Saree

The dhoti saree draping style, first displayed by Tarun Tahiliani on the ramp, gives an instant funky look, much loved by young women of today. It is a true Indo-western draped saree worn with leggings.

Archana Kochhar and Rimi Nayak flaunted dhoti-style sarees at Lakmé Fashion Week in 2012, 2013 and 2014, but the contemporary look by Tarun Tahiliani took our breath away! Benarasi dhoti sarees with long-sleeved blouses by Ritu Kumar and the sheer creations by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla at LFW S/R were ingenious examples of blended fashion and chic fusion wear.

4. Cape-Style Saree Drape

Another strong Indo-western influenced saree comes from the cape saree or caped saree blouse. Jacqueline Fernandes looked classy wearing cream creations by Anamika Khanna's "sculpt" collection at LFW Summer-Resort.
