Stylish Mini Skirts for Women

Short mini skirts still remain a hot and always in-trend piece of women's clothing that most every female should own. Guys certainly love them because they are the shortest of skirts that allow women to show off their pretty long legs. Though, even if your legs aren't that great, you can still wear one with leggings or colored stockings and still pull off the hot look.

The women's mini skirt initially caught everyone's attention in the 60s and still does today. Here you'll learn how this fashion item actually came about, where to buy one online, and how to look good in one. Women of all ages seem to enjoy this look.

History of the Mini Skirt

The beginning of the mini skirt in the 1960s was credited to the London fashion designer Mary Quant, who began actually producing the short mini dress and skirt that were both set six to seven inches above the knee. Although, the French designer André Courrèges is considered the mini skirt's true inventor.

In 1965, Quant took the idea from the 1964 designs by Courrèges and took the shorter styles and made them even shorter for her boutique Bazaar. Mary Quant is rightfully credited with making the mini skirt a popular style that had not taken off when it made its earlier debut in France.

The fashion trend took off because it was so different, and to wear it well, you had to be young. For the first time ever in any fashion era, the young became the leaders of fashion. The Quant style was soon known as the Chelsea Look.

The mini skirt eventually evolved into the micro-mini in 1967, which was nothing but a tiny strip of material that finished just below the bottom. Girls briefly experimented with pulling and stretching their stockings as high as possible, but soon the mini skirt reached new heights and pantyhose replaced stockings and suspenders. Women's hemlines of the 1960s were a gauge of contemporary attitudes: when the consumerist 'Swinging Sixties' was at its height, so were women's hemlines.

By the end of the decade, with the two extremes of skirt length popular (micro and mini), as well as the midi length, Vogue proclaimed, "The length of your skirt is how you feel this moment." If you feel playful and sexy, choose to wear a mini skirt. Feeling serious and just want to appear stylish, choose a midi skirt. The midi has recently made a come-back and are quite popular in 2015, along with the mini.

When women began to consider their personal comfort and lifestyle when choosing their fashions, the midi and maxi skirts soon made their appearance. During the 1970s, the mini skirt popularity faded as women wanted to be respected for their mental capabilities rather than their beauty. Women basically wanted to get away from being stereotyped and taken seriously not only by their counterparts but by men, too.

It may have taken 20 years to achieve their goal, but in the 1990s the fashion trend came back, often seen on popular sitcoms like Friends and Sex in the City. Women began to realize they could be respected for both intelligence and beauty and embraced it!

How to Look Good in a Mini Skirt

Those who enjoy wearing a mini skirt should know how to look their best while wearing one. If you're blessed with long, lean legs, then this is a perfect look for you! This style allows you to show your femininity and your great-looking legs at the same time. You can pull this look off with virtually any type of women's shoe, sandal, bootie or boot.

If you have short legs that aren't so perfect, don't despair, you too can still look good in one. You can add height and lengthen your legs by simply wearing a heeled shoe or boot. Also consider wearing colored or black tights with your mini, which is a very current look right now, anyway.

Also, be sure to shave your legs or have them waxed to look really put together in your mini skirt. They can be purchased in a wide variety of materials including cotton, denim, leather, wool, knits and other fabrics. Price range is $5 to $250, the price is highest for a designer mini skirt. This great-looking fashion staple is a must-have for any woman's wardrobe and be just as popular in twenty years from now.

A miniskirt is far more comfortable for men than pants or shorts. Looking good is all about having the proper attitude. Just be your ordinary masculine self without any ridiculous feminine overtones. Choose a skirt that covers your panty when standing. Realize that people are going to see your panty so attempt to color coordinate your panty with your skirt. Just relax and be your normal self. Then you will be a very comfortable and handsome dude.

To me mini skirt is not too short at all, it's a global beyond the boundaries, most nations adopted these days and age, I hope never going to be out of fashion.

Most guys don't realize it but they can also rock mini skirts successfully. See these guys in skirts and note they still look like guys just as women in pants still look like women: They are obviously NOT "cross dressing" trying to look like women.

A SKIRT is more practical for males than females due to anatomy alone (no crotch binding inseams) and males have worn mini skirt equivalents far longer throughout time than women so it is really nothing new. Guys, try wearing a short skirt on a hot day and I guarantee you won't give it up..ever! Another benefit is most (not all) women will find you "intriguing" in the skirt. (You will get more action than the jocks). They know you aren't the homophobic, sexist, gay, or sexually insecure controlling idiot they often encounter. Women should be promoting skirts on men to help level the playing field and help men breakout out of their 150+ year old boring fashion...

I have seen the most unlikely people wear mini skirts and look gorgeous. Age or weight is no barrier to who can look good in a mini skirt. My sister has great legs and I think she'll look good in a mini when she is 90.

I agree with squidshe. Mini skirts are supposed to be short, why else would we still be calling them mini? Mini skirt can really spice up a dull or otherwise conservative outfit. Love the leather mini skirt at the end of this lens - hot!

I've worn minis for many years. Unfortunately, as a chicken farmer, I don't get to wear them much anymore. Loved looking & "wishing" at all the photos. Great lens!

FANTASTIC lens. I've always loved and worn miniskirts, and probably always will. They are actually very practical. Worn with leggings, they are the best garment for bicycle riding and for being on the go.

Great lens on minis. I especially like the fact that you didn't leave out us plus size gals! I've always thought the micro mini was a bit much-save yourself the money and just put on a band-aid! LOL! Anyway, love your lens.

I love your lens as well as mini skirts, but they are too short today. It is so hard to move without trying to stay covered.
