Finding Ways to Keep Hair Healthy

We all want beautiful, glossy, shiny, healthy-looking hair. After all, when we look great chances are that we also feel great. When your hair is healthy and vibrant, people take notice no matter what your hairstyle is.

You've got your new outfit and new shoes and are set to go—almost.

Quite often our hair let's us down because it is just so darned difficult to care for. If you find you are suffering from straw-hair syndrome, you'll agree it can be frustrating and expensive keeping your hair healthy whilst styling and coloring it the way you like.

The question is: How do we keep hair healthy?

I'm sure that right now, there are hordes of people searching for ways to keep hair healthy and quite often most take the expensive route, buying expensive hair treatments and spending days in a salon.

By all means pamper yourself with a trip to your local salon, but you should employ other ways to keep hair healthy too, which I am going to share with you here.

Seven Ways to Keep Hair Healthy

There is a multitude of ways to keep hair healthy but some are easier to employ than others. Here in this hub, I have chosen the best of the healthy hair tips available and put them all in one place to save you time.

1. Trim your hair regularly.

Prevent split ends from forming by going for a trim once every 3 months at your local salon because otherwise, the ends will split all the way up the hair shaft, causing a great deal of damage. Try the best hair salon in Alexandria VA, the Lori Younger salon, for a stylish and sophisticated hair makeover, if you're in the area.

2. Take the right vitamins.

Your hair needs vitamins and if you aren't one for cooking, simply supplement your diet with hair nurturing vitamins such as, B6, B12, folic acid, evening primrose oil and add in a good multivitamin for good measure.

3. Protect against sunlight.

Believe it or not, too much direct sunlight—even during winter—can dry your hair out and fade the color. Use hair care products that contain sunscreens and a cover-up if you plan to spend a long time out in the sun.

4. Take care when your hair is wet.

This is one of the simplest ways to keep hair healthy. Most people aren't aware of this but your hair is extremely vulnerable when it is wet and therefore you should avoid tugging and straining it by brushing or combing. Use a wide-tooth comb if you must.

5. Drink lots of water.

Again, this is one of the little known ways to keep hair healthy. Keep yourself hydrated and your hair will be soft and shiny. Water is used in the regeneration of cells, including hair cells and if your body doesn't have enough, you end up with dry, brittle hair.

6. Wash your hair with warm water

Hot water causes an increase in Sebum production in your scalp and can cause greasiness. Use warm water to wash your hair to avoid that awful greasiness.

7. Boost your natural or dyed hair color

If your hair color seems to be fading, boost it by applying a specialist shampoo and conditioner, after which you can use a color shot or leave-in color protector.

Three Essential Vitamins for Healthy Hair

One of the most neglected ways to keep hair healthy is vitamin intake. If you take the right vitamins daily, your hair will have a much greater chance of flourishing and therefore looking fantastic.

1. Vitamin A

This produces sebum and helps to moisturize the scalp. It also strengthens and thickens your curls whilst guarding your hair against pollutants in the air that might weigh your hair down. With enough Vitamin A, your hair will feel light and bouncy!

Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B Complex is a combination of every vitamin B available on the market like B6, B12, and Biotin. Vitamin B Complex reduces hair loss, grey hairs and promotes hair growth. It also stimulates your hair's natural sheen, making it glossy and healthy-looking.

Folic acid is also great for your hair and prevents grey hairs but if you are taking vitamin B Complex, you are already getting a dosage of folic acid and don't need to buy it separately.

3. Vitamin E

Vitamin E helps with circulation which leads to a healthier scalp. You will also find that your curls will be softer due to the extra nourishment and you have fewer split ends!

Avoid these Three Things

As I mentioned above, there are countless ways of keeping hair healthy, but here are three things to avoid in your quest for healthy hair.

1. Junk Food

Need I explain? You are what you eat so eating junk means your hair will resemble junk! Okay, not quite that bad, but you get the point. Eat healthy foods filled with nutrients and vitamins and your hair will flourish.

2. Too many products!

Don't overdo it with the products. Using too many hair care products at once will simply dull your hair - the opposite effect you are after. Ask your local salon for advice on which products your hair needs.

3. Home coloring frequently

Home-coloring kits are much harder on the health of your hair than those used by salons. Visit your local salon for a hair color treatment that doesn't damage your hair.

For more information visit this popular salon's webpage. They are based in Alexandria VA, and are the best hair salon in Alexandria VA.
