If you know a woman who has a period who isn’t semi-constantly on the lookout for ways to make it easier to bear, please point her in my direction because I’d have to see her for myself to believe it. Lawd, if there’s one thing that menstrual cycles and mortgages/rent have in common, it’s like, the moment we get past one month…it’s already time to prepare for the next. Damn…damn…damn.
Personally, what I tend to shout out from the rooftops is evening primrose oil. My skin and PMS have been so much better since adding it to my diet. However, since I’m a huge fan of essential oils, I wanted to share another remedy from @nordinarebeauty that apparently helps with menstrual cramps too.

I’m a fan of clary sage. Granted, I don’t use it as much as she does, but I’ll cosign that it’s beneficial. If you’re not familiar with what this kinda floral/kinda earthy smelling essential oil can do for you:
· It reduces stress
· It works as an antidepressant
· It reduces menopause-related symptoms
· It helps to decrease skin inflammation
· It strengthens hair and reduces breakage
· And yes, it can help to make menstrual cramps more bearable
All good to know. At the same time, it would be irresponsible to not say that before tossing out your ibuprofen altogether, you should run by your doctor that you plan on using clary sage regularly first. One reason is because, if your cramps are severe, you should get checked out — just to make sure that there are no underlying issues. Another reason is because, although clary sage doesn’t typically have a lot of side effects, it can cause some slight drama if your blood pressure is low.
But if you get the green light from a medical professional, it couldn’t hurt to give clary sage a shot. In my experience, when it comes to essential oils, they usually do far more good than harm. Straight up.
