A wise person once said, “People who look through keyholes are apt to get the idea that most things are keyhole-shaped." Oddly enough, whenever the comparisons of the women in Destiny’s Child come up (and it seems to happen every couple of years or so), this quote comes to my mind. Why? Because when folks say that Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams came “second” to Beyoncé, the first thing I think is, “Did folks have a choice? The media clearly talks about Mrs. Bey more than the rest.” Then that is followed up with, “Funny. Kelly has always been my personal favorite.”
You don’t have the time and I don’t have the print space to go into all of the reasons why I feel this way. Very little of it has to do with talent, though. Long story short, I’ve always adored Kelly’s natural beauty and overall vibes. And she represents both impeccably well right here.
This is what Kelly chose to bless everyone with at the Wearable Art Gala about a month ago and if there is such a thing as fashion perfection, she’s comes damn near close. That skin. The dress. The color of the dress on her skin. The words “exquisite” and “elegant” don’t do this woman enough justice. And the fact that Kelly continues to become more beautiful with time — how is that even possible?
Aside from the fact that I just wanted you to see how much she killed it at this event, I also wanted her red dress (and bomb red lips) to serve as a reminder than red is a color that none of us should shy away from. Aside from the fact that it represents things like love, passion, romance, sexuality, courage, life and joy, did you know that there are studies which state that red automatically makes women appear more attractive too? Some say it has something to do with the subconscious stimulation that’s associated with the “female sexual excitement is associated with reddening of the cheeks, neck, and chest.” Hmm. Maybe that’s why red lipstick is always a classic fan favorite.
Anyway, Kelly is a gorgeous example that adding some red to your closet is always a wise move. So, if you’re shopping for a few more pieces for fall and winter, make sure that at least a couple of them are in that color. It’s one of the best investments that you’ll ever make…because again, look at her.
