How To Do A Detoxification Treatment Body Scrub

A body scrub is just one way of stimulating the lymph glands. The healthy and efficiently running lymph system, which has vessels, organs and passageways to move the lymph throughout the body is necessary to a strong immune system. The only way that lymph is moved around the body is through movement and exercise.

Such stimulation enables the lymph system to release the toxins and waste products that natually occur within the lymph system. Lymph glands can become clogged with waste when a person does not move around enough to stimulate the lymph glands. Methods to stimulate the lymph glands include regular exercise, massage and skin treatments that promote circulation through massaging action.

Massage The Body Scrub Onto The Skin In Small Circles

A body scrub is applied with a gentle massage action that moves the scrub formula over the skin to dislodge dead skin cells. There is no need to apply pressure because the scrub texture does the work. When the layer of dead skin cells is removed, the skin's excretion process is enabled to carry off waste and toxic accumulations from the lymph glands and sweat glands more efficiently. A scrub can be used to prepare the skin for other skin and body treatments including aromatic wraps, healing baths, deep cleansing and moisturizing.

A body scrub alone will deep cleanse, detoxify, soften, smooth and moisturize skin. A body scrub is an excellent skin care treatment that you can do every few weeks. It is not necessary to do a body scrub much more than that. If you use a self tanner, use a body scrub to remove any dry patches before applying the tanner.

Do Not Use A Body Scrub On The Soles Of The Feet, Face Or Neck

You can use a body scrub before a shower or in the shower. Either way, never apply the oily body scrub to the bottom of the feet. This will create a dangerously slippery environment. You can apply the scrub to the tops and sides of the feet and toes.

Do not use a body scrub made from white sugar, cornmeal or sea salt on the face or neck as these areas are too delicate for the scrubbing action. A more appropriate scrubbing texture for the face would be that of ground cornmeal, ground almond meal or ground brown rice.

Body Scrub Ingredients

Any scrubing ingredient will exfoliate the skin and will have different properties than other scrub ingredients. Use what you have on hand unless you have a medical condition that eliminates the use of salt or sugar. If so, use cornmeal or ground oatmeal as the active ingredient.

As for the different effects of the scrub ingredients:

  • Sea salt has a detoxifying effect on the skin.
  • White sugar exfoliates the skin.
  • Cornmeal exfoliates the skin.
  • Ground oatmeal soothes itchy skin and is moisturizing.

The oil or fat that you use will moisturize and soften the skin. Some oils have a stronger scent than others: safflower, sunflower, castor oil and shortening do not have strong aromas. While olive oil is excellent for the skin, it has a stronger scent that you may want to halve with another oil.

Body Scrub Recipe

2 Tablespoons Fine Ground Sea Salt or White Sugar or Cornmeal
4 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil (Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Safflower Oil, Castor Oil, Unhydrogenated Vegetable Shortening, Single Oil Or Blend Of Oils)

Instructions To Make Body Scrub
Blend small amounts of the oil into the scrub ingredient until you have a wet sand texture. When it is like wet sand, it is ready to use.

Instructions For Using The Body Scrub

If you just want a skin treatment to exfoliate, soften and moistuize the skin, lay newspaper in a big square beside the shower. Take a shower and do your usual routine. Step out of the shower and pat yourself dry. Pin hair out of the way. Use the scrub then take a shower. Rinse off the residue of the body scrub and pat dry. You can also apply the body scrub in the shower without leaving the shower area.

The benefits to leaving the shower to apply the body scrub are that you can make sure that the scrub does not go down the drain before you get a chance to use it, you can cover all the areas of your body that are reasonably within your reach and you can let the mixture sit on your skin for a few minutes for a longer conditioning period.

If you want to apply the body scrub dry, lay out the newspaper beside your shower. Use the body scrub and then take a shower. Make sure that you lay the newspaper in a large enough radius on the floor around you because the scrub formula will get flicked around pretty far as you use it.

Massaging Your Body Limbs First Then Your Trunk Always Towards The Heart As Much As Possible Anyway

1. Begin with one hand going up the arm to your shoulders, upper back and upper chest. Do the other hand and arm. Always work towards the heart.

2. After you have scrubbed your upper limbs, work from the tops of your feet up to your hips on both sides. Make sure that you include all around the legs including the backs of your knees and legs right up to your hips.

3. Avoid using a scrub on any private areas on the body. The texture is too rough. Be gently in the underarm area or avoid the area if the skin is too tender. Work on your back trunk first. Work up from your hips or where you left off when finishing your legs. Do as much of your upper back as possible working towards your heart even though it is awkward reaching upwards on your back. Do what you can.

Do a similar routine on the front of your trunk. Work up from your hips and lower belly and then work from your shoulders down towards your heart with small circular motions. When you have done all suitable areas that you can reach, you are finished.

4. Let the oil rest on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing it completely away. Pat the body dry. Use an oil or moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
